From Oats to Avocado: A Fun Guide to the Best Foods for Weight Loss

As someone who’s struggled with their weight for most of their life, I know firsthand how frustrating it can be to feel like nothing you do is working. From counting calories and cutting carbs to drinking lemon water and apple cider vinegar (ahem, guilty), I’ve tried it all.

But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that losing weight doesn’t have to be about deprivation and strict rules. In fact, some of the most effective weight loss methods involve adding in more of the things we love (yes, even avocado toast).

So, without further ado, here’s my fun guide to the best foods for weight loss:

1. Oats

Ah, the humble oat. It might not seem like much, but this breakfast staple is one of the best foods you can eat when it comes to weightloss. Why? For starters, oats are a great source of fiber, which means they keep you feeling full and satisfied for longer. Plus, they’re low in calories and packed with vitamins and minerals, like iron and magnesium.

My favorite way to enjoy oats is in a big bowl of oatmeal with some fruit and nuts on top, but there are plenty of other ways to incorporate them into your diet. Try adding oat flour to your smoothies or using it as a substitute for regular flour in your baked goods.

2. Avocado

Yes, you read that right. Avocado can actually be a great tool for weight loss, as long as you don’t go overboard (sorry, avocado toast addicts). The key is to remember that avocados are high in fat (albeit the good kind), so you don’t want to eat too much of them.

That being said, adding a few slices of avocado to your salad or sandwich can help keep you full and satisfied thanks to its high fiber and healthy fat content. Plus, it’s delicious. Win-win.

3. Berries

If you’ve got a sweet tooth (like me), berries are your new best friend. Not only are they delicious and low in calories, but they’re also packed with antioxidants and fiber to keep you feeling full and energized.

My personal favorites are strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries, but feel free to mix it up and try something new. Just be sure to stay away from processed fruits (like fruit snacks or canned fruit) that are high in sugar and low in nutrients.

4. Greek Yogurt

If you’re looking for a high-protein breakfast or snack option, Greek yogurt is the way to go. Not only is it low in calories, but it’s also low in sugar and high in protein, which can help keep you feeling full and satisfied for longer.

Plus, Greek yogurt is incredibly versatile. You can top it with fruit and nuts for a sweet treat, or mix in some herbs and spices for a savory snack. Just be sure to choose plain, unsweetened yogurt for the best results.

5. Salmon

Last but not least, let’s talk about fish. Specifically, salmon. Not only is salmon a great source of protein, but it’s also packed with omega-3 fatty acids, which have been shown to reduce inflammation, improve brain function, and even lower your risk of heart disease.

Try adding salmon to your diet a few times a week by grilling it with some veggies, or topping a salad with some smoked salmon. It’s delicious, healthy, and will definitely keep you satisfied.
